Make sure the guard dog security company is a member of NASDU and their handler have NSADU training. Ask to see their training certificates.
SIA Licence and Vetting
Although dog handler sdo not require an SIA licence, we think it is best practice to have SIA Licensed handlers, vetted and employed directly. many security companies claim they have dog handlers but use individuals on a self employed basis.
Check where the dogs are kennelled and ask to visit the dog section, ask to see the some of the dogs files as these should provide up to date information on visits to the vet and inoculations etc. Question how the dogs are transported and look at the vehicles.
Inspect training records for both the guard dog security teams, ask when and where continuation training is provided and who assess the teams. Reputable security dog providers are proud of their dogs and section and will be more than happy to show you information and introduce you to their trainers and assessors.
It goes without saying check with existing and crucially previous clients. Many security dog contracts are short term so you can gauge how work has been previously completed.
